Abdelkader Yousfi

Abdelkader Yousfi was born on 2 September 1926 in El Ammaria, Médéa Province, to Ahmed and Tafaha Yahi. His father was a modest farmer who worked the land. Despite the family’s difficult circumstances, he ensured his son attended the Qur’anic school. Abdelkader married and had two sons and a daughter.

He joined his companions in the struggle at the very beginning of the Revolution in the Blidean Atlas. His intense activity made him a constant target of the occupying army, which suffered heavy losses because of him.

The leadership of Wilaya IV entrusted him with the role of political officer for the sector. On 10 September 1958, during a battle against the occupying forces, he was struck by bullets. He died from his wounds while still holding his weapon in “Kaf El Hussein,” Bouarfa, Blida.

The occupiers displayed his body, riddled with bullets, at the entrance of the Bouarfa bridge. Despite their actions, his soul had already ascended to its Lord. Abdelkader was 32 years old. He was buried in the Sidi Hlou cemetery in Blida.

After independence, the local authorities named a middle school in the Zitoune neighborhood after him, and a street in Blida, from Hai Bouaïba to the Kasab Market on the road to Ouled Yaïch, also bears his name.
