Iskander BACHIR

Iskander Bachir was born on 12 November 1935 in Algiers, the son of Mohamed and Kbour Oum El Hassan. His family later moved from Algiers to the city of Blida.

He began his primary studies at Boubrit School (El Arbi Tebsi, now Bab El Zawiya), then continued at Dufrieh Secondary School (formerly Ibn Rushd, now Bab El Kbour). In 1955–1956, he studied natural sciences and mathematics diligently and was among the top students in his class, consistently excelling in both subjects.

He was a member of the General Union of Algerian Students in Blida and participated in student demonstrations on 19 May 1956, answering the call of the Revolution. He left his studies to join the National Liberation Army and continued his struggle until he was martyred in 1957 during a clash with enemy forces at Sidi Ali Bounab, in Cherchell .

A school on Chrea Road, Zanqat El Nwar, was later named in his honor: Iskander Bachir School.
