Martyr Mkrekeb Abrane Ben Youssef was born on 9 July 1935 in Blida, the son of Mohamed and Zahra bint Abdelkader. He lived on Chrea Road, Suleiman Chaachou Street. His profession was a day laborer in woodworking.
He came from a large family, attended Quranic schools (kouttabs), and memorized the Quran. He did not have the opportunity to attend formal school like other children his age, but his love for his homeland instilled in him a spirit of patriotism and sacrifice for his country’s independence.
He began his revolutionary work as a fedayee within the group led by Martyr Shambit Mohamed, also known as Shahma Mohammedi. He carried out several operations. He was arrested following a fedayee operation in the Bab El Rahba neighborhood, which resulted in the death of a traitor (Harki).
On 3 July 1956, he was imprisoned in Blida, then transferred to ex-Barberousse Prison Now Sarkadji in Algiers, where he was executed by guillotine on 3 March 1958 at 3:10 a.m.
A road leading to Chiffa Les Rosiers was later named in his honor.
