Salah Aougrout

Biography

Salah Aougrout, widely known as Souilah, was born on 22 March 1961 in Brives (Indre), France. He is an Algerian comedian, actor, screenwriter and television and radio host.

He is best known for his comic style, often compared to the British character Mr. Bean due to his expressive facial gestures and physical humor.

Early Life

Salah Aougrout was born into an Algerian family originally from Blida. Growing up, he developed a strong interest in performance and entertainment.

Career

Beginnings and Breakthrough (1994–2004)

Son of a former athlete, he chose theatre at a young age, first as an amateur. Algerian audiences discovered him in the musical comedy Dja L’Maa. He then moved into professional theatre, joining a troupe in Blida.

There, a director spotted him and offered him his first film role in Carnaval fi Dachra. He later appeared in Dhaouaher wa Souloukat. From that point on, he continued performing in televised sketches and stage productions.

Before 2004, he took part in several series, including Dhik fel Kloub.

In 2004 and 2005, he appeared in the popular comedy series Nass Mlah City. In 2006, he joined the cast of Binatna.

In 2007, he appeared in Argent national, directed by his wife Fatima Belhadj. The film explores Algeria’s civil conflict of the 1990s through the struggles of a modest family composed mainly of women. This was his first major role in cinema.

Success and Recognition (2008– )

From 2008 to 2011, Aougrout played a taxi driver in the hit series Djemai Family, directed by Djaafar Gacem. This role established him as one of the leading figures of Algerian television comedy.

Between 2015 and 2017, he portrayed Achour 10 in the widely acclaimed series Sultan Achour 10.

In 2016, he joined the cast of Bouzid Days, where he played the lead role.

Personal Life

Salah Aougrout is married to actress and filmmaker Fatima Belhadj.
