Suleiman Stafi

Suleiman Stafi, son of Omar Stafi and Hanifa bint Mohamed Saoudi, was born on 11 April 1911 in the Bab El Zawiya neighborhood within the walls of Blida.

He joined the National Liberation Front from its founding in 1954. He worked alongside fellow martyrs Bonama Djilali, Mustafa Naïmi, and Khaled Issa El Bay. Together, they organized a secret meeting in 1961 at the Naïmi house in Bab El Khouikha. During this time, Suleiman was captured while trying to escape between Bab El Khouikha and Bab El Zawiya, at his home, now the Sim Boulevard 20-meter trade center.

He was imprisoned in Blida and tortured at the former Bab El Rahba soap factory (now the Civil Protection center). When he refused to confess, he was transferred to the torture center at Oued El Alaïq under Commander Le Viard, where he endured electric shocks and all forms of torture.

He remained imprisoned until the ceasefire, after which he was released. Following independence, he moved to Algiers for treatment from burns and torture injuries. He passed away on 14 November 1962 at his home in Rouïssou, Algiers, and was buried in Sidi Ahmed Belkor Cemetery.
